Guided Imagery and Oncology

Really nice article by Belleruth recalling how guided imagery went from "unmitigated fruitloopery" (hee) to "a respectable, recommended mind-body therapy" in the oncology field.

p.s. She's offering a 10% discount off any CD or download through the end of the month, with a portion of proceeds going to support breast cancer research... use code bcr1011.

Toxins In Our Skin Care?

I've just added the Environmental Working Group'sCosmetic Databaseto my list of resources.  If you're concerned about what's in the products you slather on your biggest organ every day, this is a great resource.  It lists toxicity and health concerns for each ingredient, and rates the product. The government does not currently regulate personal care products, and manufacturers do not have any oversight outside of their industry.

Unfortunately, Biofreeze (which I sell) does NOT have a good score.

What a wild ride! Also: CEIM, artists, and migraines

Whew! I haven't posted in a while, but I have an excellent reason: my first month in businesscompletely exceededmy expectations. I figured I'd have plenty of time to write about the subjects that interest me, fuss with the website, and make connections with other businesses... Nope!  I've been busy arranging appointments, deliveringexcellentmassages... and doing laundry. The laundry never ends. (Side note: if you never figured out how to fold a fitted sheet, and you're dying to learn... I'm the girl to ask.

New Arrival: Lotus Touch Aromatherapy

I've just received a sampler of Lotus Touch therapeutic grade essential oils!

I'm trying out the following blends:

Clear Mind: Woody and slightly camphorous aroma. A fusion of Basil, Lemon and Peppermint to clarify and stimulate fatigued minds, blended with Elemi and Benzoin to help reduce stress.

Lotus Love:  A unique essential oil blend with relaxing and meditative oils of Patchouli and Lavender combined with sensual Jasmine and Frangipani.

Relaxation:A woodsy, sweet, and fresh aroma to encourage a state of deep relaxation.

Sick Day

I'm sick today - and of course I have too much to do to be sick!  Interesting how hard I find it to practice what I preach: take care of your own self.  Respect your body. Slow down when you're sick; get enough rest.

Before I take a lick of my own medicine, I'm going to add a product I like to theResourcespage: theNeilMed Sinus Rinse. If you have allergies, or get chronic sinus infections, this product will change your life.  It's much easier to use than a traditional neti pot. I always feel like I'm going to drown myself with the teapot style.

Take care of yourself

I own two of the three books recommended here as"self-help for the skeptical". (Full disclosure: I once came across "Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui" in a... big pile of clutter.) Self-help does have a bit of a bad rap, but here's the thing: if you aren't going to help yourself, who will?  Nobody's lining up for that job.

Ultimately, who you are and how you move through the world is up to you. I find that a wonderfully liberating idea... but I won't lie, I need help sometimes.

Prolonging the benefits of a massage

First - I have news!  The Commonwealth of Massachusetts hasofficially licensed me to practice massage. I'm looking at spaces now, and am hoping to have a new business home soon!

Second - I promised last time I would talk about ways to protect your investment in a massage.  You are spending good money to feel great, and I want you to hold on to that feeling as long as possible.  Here are simple things you can do... as well as some examples of what not to do.

After Your Massage...

Bad idea:

Guided Imagery and Why I Recommend It

I've just updated my Resources page with one of my favorites: Belleruth Naparstek's guided imagery.  I've noted that I might be able to provide a discount - here's how that works.  I get a professional discount when I buy Health Journeys products in bulk; I'll pass the savings on to you, and you can save on shipping fees if you want to pick up the items from me. You can also download them as mp3s, but I don't get a discount on those. Let me know if you're interested in a particular title.
