I just finished the four-day training to become an infant massage instructor. The class was marvelous - a great group of interesting women. I was somewhat surprised to be one of only two LMTs in the group, but encouraged that so many people in other disciplines are helping spread the acceptance of positive touch.
One of the most important parts of the massage we teach - if not THE most important part - is Asking Permission. The baby's parent rubs oil between their palms so the baby can hear it, then shows their open hands and asks, "would you like a massage? |

Whew! I haven't posted in a while, but I have an excellent reason: my first month in businesscompletely exceededmy expectations. I figured I'd have plenty of time to write about the subjects that interest me, fuss with the website, and make connections with other businesses... Nope! I've been busy arranging appointments, deliveringexcellentmassages... and doing laundry. The laundry never ends. (Side note: if you never figured out how to fold a fitted sheet, and you're dying to learn... I'm the girl to ask. |

I'm sick today - and of course I have too much to do to be sick! Interesting how hard I find it to practice what I preach: take care of your own self. Respect your body. Slow down when you're sick; get enough rest.
Before I take a lick of my own medicine, I'm going to add a product I like to the Resourcespage: the NeilMed Sinus Rinse. If you have allergies, or get chronic sinus infections, this product will change your life. It's much easier to use than a traditional neti pot. I always feel like I'm going to drown myself with the teapot style. |

I just added a page showing off a few of the babiesI got to know as I was massaging their mothers. I have a few more to add, including the intrepid Leif and Alex the Awesome, who was *almost* part of a Massage Hat Trick. That's massaging three generations in one setting. (I made it up.) Alex's parents were my clients for years, and I'd been privileged to work with various family members and friends of theirs. I showed his parents some baby massage tricks before I left Chicago, and we were hoping to pull off an MHT - I'd work on baby Alex, his parents, AND his grandmother! |

I moved to Somerville last month after working as a massage therapist in Chicago for seven years. I'm excited to make a new life and build a new business here.
Once I receive my license from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, I'll be able to do what I love - bodywork. In the meantime, I hope to provide some interesting and useful things through this blog.
I'll be putting a cancer outreach program into place in the coming months. I lost my Dad to cancer in 2006 and want to do my part - a small part - to ease the experience of this disease for others. |
